A lifelong love for rugby begins at Seattle.

Since 1987, The Seattle Vikings Rugby Club has welcomed young men and women to the great sport of rugby, upholding the finest traditions of club rugby among members, on the pitch, and between competitors. We are a Washington State non-profit, and we are currently working on converting to a non-profit 501c3 status, with a vision to be the first and most impactful stop on their rugby journey, for every Seattle based child, parent and coach.

We are the largest youth club in Seattle. Founded in 1987, The Seattle Vikings run youth rugby programs throughout the metro area for 8-19 year old boys and girls.

Offering spring 15-a-side rugby, and summer 7’s seasons, every child has the opportunity to play rugby according to their age, interests, experience and ability.

Vikings’ players represent the diversity of our community, coming from over 20 schools, both public and private.

Seattle RFC has a devoted staff including ten USA Rugby certified coaches, a certified athletic trainer and a committed parent support organization.

The club is sanctioned by USA Rugby and competes against other clubs throughout Washington and British Columbia, and travelling international high school teams.

History / MilestoneS

In 1966, the men’s Seattle Rugby Club was formed, a rag-tag bunch which emerged over 50 years to be a national championship-level side and regular supply of talent to the USA Eagles National Team. The men’s club even counts among its playing member young players who rose to international stardom, including Jarrod Cunningham (New Zealand Maori) and Frank Bunce (New Zealand All Blacks)

As the men’s club grew, and the ‘Black & Amber Heroes’ adopted the colors of New Zealand’s Waikato club, home of one of the clubs’ many ex-pat players.

In 1987, with interest in youth rugby growing, Seattle RFC’s committed head coach Tony Smeeth formed the “Seattle Juniors,” featuring players from various north-side high schools. Smeeth subsequently coached the USA national team.

The ‘juniors,’ while a separate organization, affiliated with the men’s club in culture, colors and traditions, and remain close partners to the Seattle Rugby club today.
